“Waffles, Friends, Work”

I didn’t even google the origins of Galentines because I only want to believe that it got its start with Leslie Knope on Parks & Rec. I mentioned her in my first Galentine’s post, but this year’s (the third annual) was definitely inspired by her!

My roomie, Mary, & I love celebrating our gal pals & decided to channel our inner Leslies because she is the ultimate hype lady! We did our research which included viewing all the galentine episodes of Parks & Rec, diligently taking notes.

The recurring theme was brunch at a restaurant & fun gifts. Therefore, we texted our gals & set up a time to meet at a fave brunch spot with a view. We added simple vases of pink flowers to the table for a pop of color & feminine touch. We also threw in a Disney/Pixar love quote quiz & princess socks to match. I’m sure if Leslie was hosting, she would have chosen female politicians rather than  movie characters, but Disney is more our forte. Mary hand-lettered cards with Knope’s famous, over-the-top compliments & we sprinkled candy on the table.

To recreate the “watercolor” cards, use brush pens to scribble on foam sheets. Next, spray foam sheets generously with water. Stamp foam sheet color side down onto watercolor paper. Allow cards to dry, then add hand-lettering.

Some of my favorite Leslie Knope quotes:

“We have to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles and work. Or waffles, friends, work. But work has to come third.”

“You’re a beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk ox.”

“Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?”

“You poetic, noble land-mermaid.”

“You’re a genius. Your brain is almost as perfect as your face.”

Pro tip: instead of sprinkling confetti on the table for the server to cleanup, confetti was sprinkled in vases to float colorfully on the water. (Good thinking, Haley!)

It was so nice to host at a restaurant because we didn’t have to do much & just got to enjoy our girl time. Until next year-go be the Leslie Knope at whatever you do!
