August

To quote Taylor Swift “August slipped away into a moment in time”. Do you count August as summer or fall? I cling to summer for as long as I can but I’ll be ready for fall when September rolls around.

“I am the true vine, & my father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have already spoken to you. Abide in me & I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me & I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

-John 15:1-5

Anyone else noticing that fruit keeps popping up like a common thread in my life? Probably means I need to pay attention, huh? πŸ˜‚ Through podcasts & verses & books, I’m really trying to pay attention to what I can learn from fruit. I read ‘Chasing Vines‘ this month where I got to dive into the world of grapes & vineyards with vines weaving all throughout the Bible to teach me important things about my caring Creator & the life I want to live out. A few of my favorite quotes that I think relate to Confetti Reign pretty well come from the last section of the book.

“Partying was God’s idea in the first place.”

-Beth Moore

I mean, come on with it! As I’ve talked about before, celebrations are commemorations. They remind us where or what we’ve come from. They put a stake in the ground at times we’ve accomplished something or reached a milestone. They help us cherish the past & look forward to the future. I think (& so does Beth) that God wants us to celebrate. It reminds us of His goodness even amidst this wild, heartbreaking, wonder-filled world we live in.

“Only God can save the world. But we can serve it a fruit platter.”

-Beth Moore

Showing hospitality to others doesn’t have to be limited to inviting someone into your home. Fruit platters are portable. Take it out with you to work, school, the grocery store, everywhere. Mostly metaphorically speaking here of course but sure take physical food too!

“Laughter is audible hope.”

-Beth Moore

While these ideas marinate, let’s take some time to remember August. As I reminisce, I hope you get the chance to as well. 😊

Chocolate Chip Cookie Day – August 5th

This was a happy surprise because I didn’t even realize what day it was when I heading into Chick-fil-A for lunch & was met with a warm chocolate chip cookie.

Tooth Fairy Day – August 22nd

Don’t worry, I didn’t lose any teeth haha! But I do think this would be a good time to share some tooth fairy inspiration with ya! Sadly, I don’t think I have any photos to share with you so I’ll try to paint a good word picture for you.

I was obsessed with fairies as a kid! I had a white, gauzy fairy net around my bed that mom & I crafted wooden bead fairies to hang in, I dressed as a fall fairy for Halloween one year, & I created fairy gardens (also with mom’s help). The tooth fairy was probably my favorite of all though. I had a special silver locket-like container the size of a quarter (convenient πŸ˜‰) with a tiny golden fairy figurine that sat on top. I’d carefully place my tooth inside & set it on my night stand before falling asleep to magical dreams. When I’d wake up I’d open up my treasure trinket to find a couple quarters in my tooth’s place.

Somewhere along the way, things got a bit more complicated for my precious parents thanks to one of my classmates haha. You know kids talk about all kinds of things & in elementary school, the tooth fairy is no exception. My friend, Bailey, shared all the things her tooth fairy did like leaving a photo or note & she new what color their wings were by the water that changed color overnight. So what did my fairy do after hearing the school chatter? The same things! I was amazed! We’d fill up a glass vessel with plain ol water but when I woke up it was blue or purple! Looking back now, I’m super impressed my how quickly my parents pulled this stuff off. Scouring the internet for fairy photos to print & adding a note. Getting the jar ready then sneaking in to do all these things just to add extra magic to my childhood. Thanks mom & dad!

Somewhere along the way I started rolling up tissues with hair ties to form pillow in my jewelry box in case my fairy need to take a nap. And who could forget about a little snack?! I would set out a cheerio & there would always be a nibble taken out of it. Now, I’m not a parent so this isn’t to add any pressure to what you’re already doing but if you wanna be a little extra, I say go for it! Heck, I’m 27 & still talking about this stuff so clearly it made an impact on me haha!

National Waffle Day – August 24th

Fun fact: my first visit to a Waffle House was this summer! Have been a repeat customer since lol! Here’s hoping sprinkles will be added to the menu. 🀞🏼πŸ€ͺ

Bucket List

  • Paint veggie hutch βœ”οΈ I’ve long admired my grandmother’s veggie hutch that my grandfather built & now I have it! As cute as it was, it wasn’t quite my style so I gave her a fresh coat of paint & updated the hardware.
  • Float the river (sadly was rained out)
  • Try a Sounds game again βœ”οΈ This time the very most perfect weather!
  • Go on lots of scooter rides βœ”οΈ
  • Try a Starbs frozen lemonade before it’s PSL season βœ”οΈ
  • And bonus: I did try a new sourdough recipe this month! Chocolate chip banana bread! (Am now realizing between the cookie, waffle, & bread, there was no shortage of chocolate chips this month!)
